Welcome to the Nauru Law Society
The Nauru Law Society (NLS) is the professional body representing legal practitioners in the Republic of Nauru. Established under Part 8 of the Legal Practitioners Act 2019, the Society promotes the integrity, independence, and excellence of the legal profession while upholding the rule of law and improving access to justice.
Our Mission
To advance the practice of law, support professional development, and protect the interests of the public and the profession.
As the official voice of the legal community in Nauru, the Society works closely with the judiciary, government agencies, and regional partners to strengthen the justice sector, ensure ethical legal practice, and enhance access to legal resources and education.

Our Functions
Advance the interests, integrity, and practice of the legal profession.
Provide education, training, and continuing legal education for members.
Represent and promote the views and interests of the legal profession.
Facilitate matters relating to professional conduct, admissions, and ceremonial occasions.
Promote client care, ethical practice, and professional standards.
Set and review membership fees in consultation with the Registrar.
Make administrative rules for governance of the profession.
Carry out other statutory responsibilities as required by law

The Council acts as the executive body (Section 52) and meets at least four times a year to manage the Society’s activities, finances, and strategic direction
Accountability and Transparency
In accordance with Sections 53–58, the Society maintains an official bank account, holds annual general meetings, and prepares audited annual accounts and activity reports. Minutes of meetings and audited financial statements are available to members on request.
